It's great how you guys can disagree without being disagreeable. It will be interesting to find out the results from NGC. My first ebay purchase was a PCGS MS-65 1879-S Morgan. I discussed it on another thread and it is a special one to me. I hope your coin wasn't whizzed CohibaCris. I hope NGC gives you some good news instead.
I think that some of us just like playing devils advocate. It makes all of us consider the possibilities. Thinking and research along with good lighthearted debates help all of us to learn. While all of us are trying to give our best here on the forum, pics are really hard to go by. If I had the coin in hand, it would be much different.
Very Very good day Well, it just goes to show that picture grading is a rather poor mechanism to distinguish the little details. NGC graded the coin an MS61. The final word was the lines in the coin were die polish marks, which did not affect the value of the coin from a downward position. Here are the pics:
I think we all agree on that! Which explains a lot. Think about it, whizzing/brillo padding/polishing/etc. leave scratches - incuse marks on the coin - or on the die itself. A scratch on the die translates into a raised area on the coin, and it's almost impossible to distinguish between incuse and raised marks in a photo. Congratulations on the grade Cris.
