hi all, I've got another one for ya. I've personally never seen wear like this on a coin, which leads me to think it could be an error? its almost completely smooth, very wide lettering as well as faint, there is no rim to speak of. the reverse is the same. thanks again guys
That's very odd. Those scratches on Jefferson's face make me think PMD. And since there's no rim, I would take a guess that someone sanded it down. It's the same diameter as normal nickel, right?
I feel like if it were sanded it would be more scratched, but could be wrong. it almost rwminda me of an electrical slug.
here are two more that may help I just noticed this through my loupe. its almost like a thin piece of the coin is laying over the tops of some of the letters
Must of been in an acid bath that's not mint damage ..at first I was thinking a foreign blank /Planchet but it's got to have been acid diped
alright, so two questions: should I hold on to it? and why would someone dip it in acid? thank you for helping me out
sure hold on to it as a specimen I has seen things done in HS science class to see how different acids effect different medals. The give away to me is the even wear of the coins high points all seem to be eaten away until neutralized. By water or another agent that stoped the acid from eating away more medal. Just my take on it see what others think....
