i guess i overpaid , made a spontanious decision.. however the lot has some good coins. Can anyone tell me how much did i ove paid? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEWN:IT&viewitem=&item=140049953307&rd=1&rd=1
Vlad - do you mind if I ask: was there a coin or two in the lot that interested you specifically on this lot? I hate to say it, but I think you paid quite a bit more than you had to. I will admit that there's a couple pieces in there that I'm not familiar with, such as the Japanese coin with the Gin counter on the reverse. On the other hand, there's a couple pieces in there that I would weigh out for authenticity reasons. Beyond that, the group is sort of all over the board.
Thank you Rick-- i bought it mostly becouse i liked 1796 8 reales coin, and minorly some others. Bbesides i like these sort all over the bord lots . Mind me asking, which coins you doubt in the lot? How much do u think I overpaid? $100? 130? more? :headbang:
I just don't know Vlad. There are coins in there that I'm not familiar with enough to say, for sure, what a group like that is worth, all told. The Japanese coin could be worth more than I think. I have found it pays off to look at it like this... if the 8 reales is what you really wanted, you could have purchased an eye popping example for that amount. But again, if you like a wide range of diverse coins, there's value to some of the other pieces, too... So the real question is, how much do you think you overpaid?
I haven't checked but what would each of them go for seperately on eBay? Don't forget, add the shipping too. Looking at the bid history you were pushed by some pretty savy buyers who weren't afraid to spend over $300-$350 themselves for the lot. One never knows until you get them inhand and check the individual values... Ben
The Meiji 28 (1895) yen temporarily demonetized at the main Osaka branch mint by countermarking it "Gin" ("Silver), has a Krause catalog value between $9 VG and $55 XF. The Japanese Numismatic Dealers Association catalog range is ¥3,000-33,000 (~$25-280) Bullion value is a little over $9. Personally, I wouldn't go over $20 for that one, including S/H, if I needed it to fill a hole. I seriously doubt that it played much part in the bidding decisions, as I don't recognize any of the bidders as people who regularly bid on Japanese coins. BTW, although I didn't see any obvious signs of counterfeiting, there are several coins in the lot (including the silver yen and the British Trade Dollar) which were heavily counterfeited during their circulating days, and are currently even more heavilly "replica-ized" by the Chinese and Bulgarian forgers. If everything checks out as genuine, my guess is that you paid a fair value for the lot.
Oops, I thought that 8 reales coin is Spanish one, which is much more by Krause than its mexican brother...
