Just found this CRHing a box of nickels. What do you think pmd or lamination error? Not sure what something like this is worth if it's not pmd? Thanks
I think it's a lamination, and a major one at that :thumb: It appears most of it is retained, but a piece in the right-obverse field has detached. Notice the graininess of the date, mintmark, and 'Y' in "LIBERTY".
Yea I totally noticed that myself as well. I have been searching the web to find one like it but haven't seen one this bad yet. Might have to take it to my LCS tomorrow & see what they say. This is my first error find so not sure if it's worth getting graded or what not. Thanks
With that green stuff at 11 o'clock on the obverse, the coin's chances of grading are slim. And if corrosion has set in, you can forget it. Personally, I don't think it's worth getting slabbed. You can appreciate the error more when it's raw anyway
It should be, but I've seen corroded coins in graded holders, so it obviously isn't. If the verdigris is eating into the metal, then grading is highly unlikely. If the verdigris is only on the surfaces and pitting hasn't developed, then proper conservation might give the coin a chance at grading.
