Your Opinion on ANACS

Looks like the price he is getting is from the PCGS website. (Why people go there for prices I will never know. First off, those prices are supposedly for PCGS slabbed coins, Second they are overly inflated BIGTIME) SVDB hit it on the head here, I too would purchase ANACS 65 before I would pay for the NTC66. (not saying I would not buy the NTC, I will say that I would look at the coin and pay accordingly though, probably error on my side and pay MS63 or MS64 for it) I have submitted alot of coins to ANACS, I have agreed with all but one that they sent back, even the bodybagged after a relook on my part. (I missed something on a coin) Call ANACS and ask for Miles Standish, he will fix whatever is wrong, he is a great guy. I hope he is in line for the top spot now.

I trust the PCGS price guide about as much as the coin values magazine
BEST place to find out what a coin is worth is to look at ebay finished auctions IMO.

 

Off topic, silly question... In the numismatic world, is ANACS pronounced as a word (anax) or is it spelled out A-N-A-C-S?

 

You know, I always thought it was A-N-A-C-S but when I recently called them they answered the phone as "anax"

 

They say Anax---and I guess that is the normal---sometimes I'll say the letters and no one seems to mind so I guess its an either or!

I have always heard it pronounced ANAX, never heard anyone say the letters. Same thing with SEGS, I always hear people say it...

i guess it makes sense, quicker to say it than spell it. How the heck would you pronounce PCGS or NGC?

 

back on topic, did you call ANACS to see what they would do for you?

 

Speedy is really right, in a sense. NGC prices only bring a fraction of what PCGS brings on Heritage Auctions.
Most PCGS coins bring close or over on Heritage Auctions as compared to the PCGS price list. That understood the most coins that I have sent back to the seller, that Heritage does allow on their auctions are ICG. Go figure!

Thanks, everyone for your opinions.
I plan to submit some more coins to ANACS, along with the two that were returned ungraded in a bag, because they said they had PV residue. They said they would re-examine, for $5 ea. and grade, these two coins after I removed the PV residue with acetone; which I did, (did I clean them).
They still did not offer to refund my grading fee; $16, for the coin that came back with lower grade. It states on there submission worksheet, that they will refund any grading fee on a coin that is removed from anothers services holder and can't be resertified by them.
I guess I will see what they do for these two other coins, and go from there...

You have to realize that they will certify any coin (except for counterfeits) even problem coins, so there is no refund, even tho they lowered the grade.

Soaking a coin in acetone is not considered cleaning, as it does not react with the coin. Do not use acetone on copper coins.

 

An ANACS 65 is still worth more than an NTC 66.
