Was looking through my nickels tonight and this one caught my eye because the S mint mark was kinda blurry. When I got my loupe, the S looked mushy and had a slight doubling. I looked over it more and noticed a little bit of doubling on the reverse on a few of the letters. What kind of doubling is this, plate doubling, or die deterioration? Still new at this and don't know the difference between all the different errors. IMAG0501.jpg IMAG0502.jpg

I'm no expert but im fairly sure you have either die deterioration or machine doubling. The mint mark is worth a good look though i know i have seen a 1953 S/S RPM in an ANACS slab before, unfortunately i am not familiar enough with the jefferson nickels to positively confirm if yours is or isn't. Another thing worth mentioning is that in 1953 the mint marks were still hand punched thus making the doubling on the mint mark unrelated to the doubling on UNUM. Someone who knows far more about jefferson nickels will surely chime in it might just take a little while.......:thumb:
