I found this with a coin collection I inherited. The others were several 1964 half dollars and American 1$ coins, various years and, 1979 Susan B. Anthony coins. I have seen all the debates between real or fake and after looking and looking im still 50/50....So 1776 Curency, Real or Fake?
If there is a copy mark it should be easy to see. There are tons of these around without the copy that were made before they needed to be marked. It is not really needed in this case to identify it, the surfaces and lettering are definitely proof enough. It is one of the cheap cast souvenir pieces.
I disagree. Not with the being fake part, but with the "Chinese Fake" part. Millions of fakes of these were made long before it was illegal in this country. Heck, they gave them away in cereal boxes. I say its an older fake. Not that it changes anything, or its worth, just clarifying where I think it came from.
I agree with you 100%, when I was a kid these were sold in souvenir shops at museums and historical sites, and this was long before the influx of chinese goods.
