Check out this item on ebay 130046227605. In his description he say's "It's near mint & uncirculated. Impossible, can"t be both.
Just curious, but why not ? Typically the two terms - mint condition & uncirculated - mean the same thing.
Technically MS is uncirculated, but the way the auction reads is confusing. I usually auctions like this - all that color makes me thing they want to distract me from the coin or confuse me.
Is he trying to describe an AU coin Personally, I don't trust a seller with that high a feedback number who hasn't learned how to post a useful photo.
I think I can see some sense in this. This is a commem, as it is not a proof strike, it is designated by the mint as an uncirculated strike. Likely it never has been circulated for business use. However, if it has been taken out of its holder, handled, (God forbid) dropped.... Then it would lose its mint state quality. I've seen several commems end up in my dealer's silver rounds bin for this reason.
