What do you do when you finally buy a coin you have been chasing?

I don't think anyone would need to be convinced of the allure of that coin, Chris. Bravo on a job well-done!

Well depending on the difficulty of getting the coin (going to assume you mean a real toughy) 1st I do the happy dance (don't ask), then show it to my woman (oh that's a pretty one) then the boy (another coin... eh..cool I guess) finaly put it away properly (carded, album, airtight, etc) then and only then the "what the heck I do next" sets in. This is usualy resolved by a visit to one of the coin forums I frequent and that almost always sets me off on another chase :D

medoraman => again, that is an absolutely gorgeous coin!!

I'm not sure if it's possible, but "what if" you end-up running across an even nicer version of that coin? ... do you then become sad and start second-guessing that perhaps you should have waited just a wee bit longer for a nicer version?

... man, it sounds too stressful (I'd be afraid to pull the trigger)

I imagine that would be true sir. I even have a professional copy stand, light stands, SLR, etc. The fact I have an 18 month old and a pregnant wife at home kind of limits my playing around time as well. :( Hopefully someday I can figure it out.

Oh heck no, I buy it too! I am not afraid of owning more than one, I just have never been able to buy one of these in nice condition for a price I thought was reasonable. If I can buy a second for a reasonable price I am on it. The Hormizd II coins I keep telling ancient collectors about, I own about 12 of those now. All of them nice VF-XF coins.

There is no limit to pretty, reasonably priced coins you like, right?

You gotta post a pic of the one you've got coming - blury or not! Looks like a real beauty!

You can move on to something like....oh I don't know, maybe dating? Not to be a jerk but my point is there is a whole wide world out there and although I love coins I find it sad that you would feel depressed because you actually accomplished something......give yourself a pat on the back and find something else to shoot for....this time set your sights really high so the chase is longer.

I think my pregnant wife and 18 month old son might not like it if I dated.

Something higher to shoot for? Yeah, I guess tracking down two coins in a short 10 years was way too easy. :(

I don't know, your son may appreciate the extra time with mommy while you're chasing skirt.

    :)

    Joking!

Jwt708 is absolutely correct => Daddy is merely trying to upgrade ... it's a life-skill!!?

..... Ummm, but please don't tell my wife, for she could easily trade-up from her current AE-cull to an AR Tetradrachm

Lol, I bet you most women would view us crazy coin chasers as AE culls. The main thing we have going for us is we are home at night, (chasing coins). :)

I am rolling on the floor here after reading the posts that followed this one. Perhaps you alone know why but you did say it was not yours. I guess you will stop lusting after my damaged trash of a coin now. Maybe the answer is for you to send me all your coins and I'll send you photos in trade. I can't imagine having an EF V2. I do hope you realize there are several varieties of these differing mostly by the head gear on mom and kid so you can start buying them by the roll. How many Sasanian drachms come in a roll?

You might join me and start wanting a Buran or Azarmedukht. I'd like the latter but am only slightly stupid enough to think I'd recognize one if I saw it in a pickout pot and know I won't pay for an identified one. BTW, why does Azarmedukht have a beard? [h=3][/h]

Is she a sister of Boran? They change attributions of these coins from 628 on pretty often. I had a chance at a Boran from Frank Robinson once, i will never forgive myself for missing that. She is tremendously important for one thing. When the arab armies were on the sassanians front steps, their commander used a coin of hers to say, "see men, the persians are out of men to be king!". They went on to route the persian armies.

Btw yeah, lots of varieties on these. I am sure i will want them eventually.

She is listed as the sister but Buran looks a little feminine while the sister looks like dad to the point that I'll miss the coin more that likely.

I got one coin from Frank's recent sale but only bid on 20 or so. You need to stop bidding on my lots!!! Oddly, the one I bought got the price reduced $30 so I was the only one who thought it worth having??? There are some real shockers in the prices realized (check the holed British). How many different Elymais did you get in the bunch?

I didn't bid on any of Frank's auction coins. By that point I had too many coming to me, (and I had spent a lot), from other auctions. All I got was a group of 50 of those elamites. They were nice little coins, nice condition. I debated getting another group of 50, but I already had about 60 of these late elymite coins before I ordered the first group, so I didn't pull the trigger on the second 50.

If you count different reverse styles, I am guessing about 10-14 different varities on the elamites. There were actually quite a few types with Tyche reverse, which is a little less usual than the "dots and dash" reverses.

Achieving a goal may be somewhat anticlimactic, but I don't think it's as disappointing as having a deal fall through at the last minute.

Forvmancientcoins pulled the plug on me this morning concerning the Nabataean lead token I bought - told me it was sold hours before I ordered it.

I'll tell you what - I'd have settled for a bit of a letdown with the coin in hand as opposed to my current state of frustrated chagrin.

    How many in a roll?

I have read this entire thread planning to tell you to start a roll of the Sassanid Vahran in EF but Dougsmit beat me to it. As many have said, there are plenty of coins out there for you to hunt. Have fun & please post photos of your two new coins.

One time I collected the V-nickel series in MS64. When it was completed I too felt the "letdown of the victory". I considered completing a roll set in MS64 but over the years I couldn't find more than a dozen or so of the rare dates in the condition I liked & could afford. That roll set turned me into a coin hoarder. :D

Sorry to hear about it man. Reminds me when I posted here about a coin I was all excited about, and when it arrived it was cracked in two. :( Knock on wood, that will not happen to this Sassanid. You are right, that might suck worst.

I hope I'm not belittling your disappointment on that issue, but that was one of the first threads I read in the ancients forum, and I kept coming back until the bug bit, which didn't take too long.

Well lastnight I bought the final crispina I needed for the AR set of her. It was in excellent shape and priced where I wanted to pay so I got another victory and like Orbiana it wasnt a letdown like some here have been feeling. Im excited to get the coin in hand & fixing my online gallery of just her.

Lucilla is still my goal to finish and its taking awhile.
