Hello everybody, I'm having a great Friday night of coin collecting! I am really new to grading Morgan dollars and have posted one of my coins for you to grade. I would greatly appreciate your opinions on the grade as well as why you decided what you did. This way I will know what to look for in the future to determine the grade myself!! I would grade your coin a 63. The luster is blazing, and the coin appears to be original. The strike is also very nice, especially for a new orleans coin. There are simply too many minor marks for me to call it a 64.
Looks like a nice reflective coin. MS-62 because of all the contact marks on the cheek and fields. Your coin could go higher and may even be PL; it's just too hard to tell from photos. Nice coin.
I'd say MS63. It's a nice looking coin, but the marks including the ones in the main focal areas such as on the face keep it from going any higher I think. However, looking at the coin in hand, the marks may not stand out as much, so maybe I'd say 64 then, but definitely no higher than that. The strike on that coin is fantastic for an O mint morgan, which may sway it towards the 64 also.
I wouldn't pay about 62 money for it with those pictures. In hand I may pay more. The reverse really hurts the grade.
Thanks for all the help guys! I really appreciate your opinions and only hope I will be able to help you in return someday! Have a great weekend...
I need to quit posting when I'm tired. What I mean to say was: "I would pay about 62 money for it with those pictures. In hand I may pay more. The reverse really hurts the grade."
