Hey everyone, A friend of mine had some of coins and silver bars stolen from his home recently. He is pretty upset about it because the coins were given to him by his father and grandfather, both of who are deceased. I wanted to buy him some new coins, but I have a problem getting them to my friend because he lives in another state. I've been online so I can just have them shipped to his house but when I try to buy from Apmex I can't get past the credit card information page because they keep updating the price everytime I click to go to the next step. Anyway, I gave up on them and don't know where else to look and which sites are reliable. I'm looking for VG or AU peace dollars and Morgans just a few dollars over spot. The coins I'm replacing weren't monetarily valuable just sentimentally valuable to my friend, so I'm just trying to find him some coins as a nice gesture. Where should I look. Thank you everyone for your help in advance.
Try just going to a local shop, give a look around and pick up a piece or two you think your friend would like. Then mail them to him yourself.
If you are buying gold or silver from Apmex you will pay a lot in shipping. I use my local dealer or coin shop and get gold at $50 over spot value for one ounce.
All the coins you're likely to give him will easily fit in the smallest Priority flat-rate box ($5.35). Then add $4 to $5 for the appropriate insurance and you're good to go. Wrap each coin in its holder in bubble-wrap, taped, so the box doesn't jingle. Keep your coin shop receipt AND your USPS insurance receipt in case of loss.
