i had listed this coin on ebay a few months ago for auction. i just listed the coin as a low grade large cent. i ended the auction early because the bidding was low and i did not sell the coin. the next day i received an email from one of the bidders telling me that this coin is a rare variety of u.s. large cent, he said that this coin is a 1795 large cent variety NC-3. i don't know that much about large cent varietys. if there is anybody who knows if this is a variety NC-3 View attachment 1795 large cent nc3 obverse.bmp View attachment 1795 large cent nc3 reverse.bmp coin or not please comment. i have uploaded photos of the coin. any info. that anybody has about this coin would be helpful. thanks

What you posted looks like a large dark blob. If you want opinions, you will have to give better photos. What did you use for ebay?

Better pictures would help but from what I see it sure looks like it. I assume it has a plain edge correct? Can you see the date? Is it definitely a 1795?

Assuming it is a plain edge, it has to be either 1795 or 1796. The word CENT is low in the wreath For 1795 that is only true for S-77, 78, and NC-3. Then look at the two leaves to the left of the C in CENT, they reach up to the top edge of the C. That is not true for S-77 or 78 but it is true for NC-3. It is also true for several varieties in 1796. So the next thing we look at is the outer three leaf cluster below the D in UNITED. On all the 1796 rev that match the leaves left of the C the point of the outermost leaf in the cluster below the D is either below the left foot of the D or even further left. On 1795 NC-3 it is below the center of the D. The low CENT, the tall leaves left of C and the Point of the leaf below the center of the D all seem to indicate NC-3.

If you are going to try to take pictures of the edge you will have to take the coin out of the 2X2. The plastic hides too much.

It appears to be a closet with sliding doors if you ask me.

At this point it isn't necessary. It is definitely a head of 95 and definitely not S-72 of 1794 or S-73, S-74, S-75 or S-76a of 1795 so that eliminates all known thick edge /Lettered edge varieties. You could also weigh it and it should be under 168 Grains, probably substantially below it.
