This will go to NGC..........anything near 63 or above I will be very pleased and I don't mind saying how much I paid on this one: £32 plus £6.72p BP. Good to be in the UK sometimes, not often though.
Being an '81-S I can't go higher than 64. If it was another date or mint it might have a shot at 65, but no early S mint coin would.
Agreed. TPGs are very hard on that date, as it tends to be very well struck and clean. I think your coin is a high 64, probably a 64+ Lots of eye appeal for sure.
Actually, I'd be surprised if it got a 64. There are just too many little nicks & dings in the prime focal areas of the obverse. Even a stellar reverse would only make up a half point or so, but I just don't see it.......MS63. Chris
I really do not see this as a 65, even from NGC, so I wouldn't bother unless you piggyback it with an already-planned submission and wish to do it for your collection, fun, and/or grading experience. Even if it made 64, which would be lucky, it's just not worth the expense. If you like it, enjoy the coin as-is.
Some of these weren't worth slabbing perhaps but the junk at a 63 paid for most of the coins as I got it cheap. Also, I wouldn't have known it was a 1762/3 if I didn't to NGC. I wouldn't send it alone maybe with my next 6 or 7 coins in a month or so. Coins for NGC [TABLE="width: 600"] [TR="class: datagrid_header"] LineItem Year Mint Mark Variety/Pedigree Denom. Marbury my point is this. You have either a $60 (63) to $75 (64) coin that you are going to spend another $40 on to get it slabbed. You paid $60 for the coin - the going rate. It isn't worth the extra for the slabbing cost. But, your choice.
Agreed. I remember seeing the population report for PCGS for the 81-S and it had tens of thousands in both 63 and 64 IIRC.
