Yea, this is by far the oldest post I've ever seen dug up ... it's like finding the end of the internet, but in reverse ... people are talking about AOL coin chat and all this other crazy lingo.
Not many, but I just responded in another thread where there was a post made by somebody who has been a member longer than I have.
Yeah, you ... noob. Well, I don't know whether the forum software has such a feature, but sometimes I wish there was an "auto-lock" function built into it. Some apps that come with Mac OS, for example, have that: If you have not edited a file for some period of time, it gets locked by default. Of course you can edit it again, but first you need to confirm that this is what you want to do. With a "general" topic title like this one here, I guess it does not matter much. But if somebody asked, five years ago, a specific question about a coin, and you come across the topic today, it would be nice to have an "Are you sure you want to post to this topic, with the most recent post being five years old?" Thank you for the welcome message Peter , I found your site by searching for an image of a certain US coin. I found the image clicked on the site details and up popped this site and joined, so I think the more photo's you store the better.
well.... mommy and daddy fell in love......... Nah, I like coins. I like seeing what other people have found in rolls so I hand around the CRS forums... I also like looking at posted coins people have found, so I find it disappointing when someone finds a 1923 silver half but doesn't post a pic.... Oh.... I also like just seeing the light.
Theres always something to learn no one knows everything there is to know about coins. I love talking about coins and shearing my knowlage and learning new things always something to learn
Yeah, I just come here to cause trouble... Oh...and because I like to read and discuss coins. also...if you show me yours, I'll show you mine. I often get ideas about what I want to branch into next by seeing what others are showing...I only read two forums for coins, this one and coinpeople...IMO these two forums are the best for people who are the go your own way type of collectors... I don't care about grading, slabs, nitpicking the minute details of a lovely coin...and...in fact...I like the old coins with character. I am eclectic in my coin tastes and simply like what I like. It was a huge part of my lfe for many years but I have mellowed a lot since, slowed down my collecting...so I am much more casual in my pursuit of this hobby...and it is, for me, a hobby and will never be anything else.
I like, no I love learning. I love numismatic research. I also love teaching and sharing the things I find out and know that others might not. I love coins, I love sharing my coins even if sometimes people think I'm showing off. I know that the people here will appreciate my coins. Don't get me wrong, my family loves and supports me but they don't get my hobby. I have come to terms with showing them a major error or a neat coin, die state, etc and their only response is "that's nice, is it worth anything." 9 times out of 10 the answer is a few bucks more than I paid for it, or only if you specialize, but all of you here get it and appreciate it for what it is, not for what is might be worth. That is why I come, to share in a comaraderie of coins.
