1955D BIE Error or double??? Bie error is what they call it? Is it really and error? why dont have any value like other errors. Also is there doubling on this coin???
That is a nice example of a BIE error, which is a die chip. Basically, a part of the die (in that area) fell out an created a cavity, so when the coin was struck, the area appears raised. Keep up the hunt!
Yep, a die chip is the term for the anomaly in general. In that particular location it is called a BIE because it can look like a letter I in between the B and E.
BIE error for sure and I do believe that is a true double not machine doubling. I am making this call based on the notches around the mintmark but that could be a repunch. I expect one of our experts will pipe up and confirm this.
I personally am not seeing any doubling. May be a trick of the light. If you wanted to include some close-up pictures of the supposedly doubled areas, I'm sure we could help you out.
More pics best i can do with my little Nikon cool pics camera ha ha my $600 camera needs different lens to get close to things. go figure huh. O well thanks for ur guys help. I was going to throw this wheatie in with all the rest of the scrap wheats. Thought i would post it for the heck of it cause of the bie error. I found 4 or 5 others from the same roll maybe should look closer at them.
