Very nice coin, I love when they actually have all the design details visible! It's a C1 variety and the planchet clip looks right.
Yes, I like that one too. Those 1793 1/2 cents are quite scarce even if they don't get as much attention as the 1793 cents do.
What caused the coin to look like this? Was it likely buried or something else. I am curious as to how you can tell that this is not a cast coin. I know it is experience, but I would not be certain that it is real. Lack
You are correct, it is corrosion and it likely spent some time in the ground. While cast coins do have a rough surface, it's a different kind of rough and would not have the patina that this coin has. Other indicators are weight and die diagnostics.
Here is my example of a 1793 half cent. It is not severely corroded, but does have a pebbly, uneven surface, most evident on the reverse. The obverse is well outlined however and reasonably smooth, and this is the reason why I bought it in spite of its imperfections. It is the C-3 variety.
Eduard -wow, just wow!!! Nice, low grade, problem free 1793 half cents are almost impossible to find. Honestly, I think problem free vg/f coins like this are more rare then problem free xf coins.
