Bought some war nickels at my LCS today. This one seems to be MS condition. Would this be considered Full steps? If not why? Also how much do you think it would go on ebay?
Too hard to tell from that pic. Pic needs to show the full lengths of all the steps. If pic showed the bottoms of all the pillars, that would help too. This may help. http://varietynickels.com/pages/jefferson-nickel/grading/understanding-full-steps.php
Sorry, still can't really see. I would probably say no from your pics. The steps above and between the letters C & E in Monticello look like they've taken a pretty good hit and appear to be "smunched" upwards. I'm kind of a Barber, toned Morgan guy so I'm not so sure. There are a few outstanding nickel people here and someone will chime in once they see this thread. I added a link to my first post. Try that and see what you come up with.
based on the photos this coin seems to have some traces of wear on the cheek area and on the hair area of jefferson. it would seem that the coin might be AU grade.
You have the right idea, however this example looks to have only 4.5 steps. Step 6 is completely fused with 5, there is no separation. The coin appears to be AU, with even minimal wear at this grade, those bottom two steps are history.
Better than the OP pics, but still no FS. The steps must be separated and distinguishable from one another. Any bridging, two or more steps are separated then fuse together then separate again, kills the FS, along with marks which interrupt the separation.
