I just found this speared Bison nickel, NGC referred to it as a reverse die crack but at the end of the crack on the bison's rump there appears to be a small cud.The other die cracks are different from this one, here's a link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SPEARED-2000-P-NGC-MS66-REV-DIE-CRACK-BUFFALO-BISON-BLAST-WHITE-US-MINT-ERROR-/221191689809?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item33800d5651
Cool die crack! I believe the "speared bison" has the die crack running through the middle of his body. You have the "speared in the rear" bison.
And that's not where you want to spear them I would guess, that'll only make 'em mad. To the OP, that's not a cud. Cuds are always associated with the rim. That blob is a die chip which are very common with die cracks.
I have probably 100 rolls of the 2005-P and about the same for the D and I've never had the desire to rip them open to search for either of these two errors. Now, if someone were to tell me they are worth $20 each raw, I might be inclined to change my mind. Chris
Chris I took about two months ago a $100.00 of 2005 P sealed bag of them to the bank for the cash.... 50 rolls of them. Not worth all the trouble as the coin is not what I would call a high dollar variety.
these are from a die that had a scratch on it. i don't know how some folks hyped these up so much on Ebay and burned some folks butts with them. die scratches are common on our newer coins and can be found in all different shapes and different areas on coins. the 2005 bison 5 cent coins i like the best is the scarce die clash coins that I nicknamed the peeing bison . I have a few of them and know two more people that owns a few , mine may be on Ebay if I ever get feeling better from this darn heart surgery and other health problems. I sold one of them on Ebay back a few years ago along with a detached leg bison that was made from the same die after the die clash was ground and polished off the die.
I just received about 200 Mint rolls of 2005 Bison nickels and have seen all the talk about errors. Is there a particular "run" or packaging date etc that I may direct my search for these errors? I seen on Ebay someone said the 4U8 package with 0000 code was the ones to look at. Any help would be appreciated.
