I just found out about the parsippani show at Odgenburg. When I googled "coin shows in new jersey", a NJ Coin Show Calendar was at the top of the list. It only had like 5 shows on it. And Im not sure how "coin club meetings" work because I received a few flyers. Do you need to be a member to show up and purchase coins ?
There are some extremely RARE Memorial cents out there. The really rare ones are the 1988 D reverse 89, the 1992 D close AM then the 1992 close AM. These can be 6 figure coins. However, I have not seen a recent sales record of a 1988 D reverse 89. Perhaps because so few are known ??
http://www.cointalk.com/t32047/ -What is a Cull Coin Slick means that the coin is worn down so much that is is slick, has no definition to it with regards to the images on the obverse/reverse.
Nice acquisitions, clutch. I'd call the 1922-D an F15 to VF-20. I have one myself in about F12. Keep up the hunt!
I would vol I of the cherrypickers guide if you are into lincolns. I will bet you it pays for itself quickly.
Ok. Every coin I've put a grade on has been overestimated by 5 points or so. Im using PCGS's site and written descriptions online. What am I missing here besides experience?
I'm not the best grader so I may be wrong, but I was going by the lines in the wheat stalks on the reverse. VF-25 should have stronger lines in my opinion, so I say VF-20.
I'm leaning towards VF 20 as well, aside from the wear, I see some dings on there. Below the 'M' in AMERICA is a ding, the 'A' in AMERICA is very worn, which may or may not be weak strike with the die pair unsure on that, and there are loads of dings and scratches all around Lincoln. Don't take what I'm saying as a knock on your coin, it's very beautiful, one that I would love to add to my collection to boot. Just calling it like I see it.
Yes the A is worn. I don't take anyones opinion as a knock, I seem to be overgrading my coins and just trying to get on the same page with everyone else. At certain points, pricing jumps dramatically and would hate to pay or expected to be paid for a coin that's not in its proper grade. My newest issue was determining the grade of a coin through a holder. When I got home and pulled the coins from them, I was a little disappointed because they looked better in the holder.Rookie mistakes or I was too excited about my new adventure with my rose colored glasses on lol I thought it was a 30/35 when I bought it
