I let my two girls (6,4) do whatever they want with their own coins for the most part. They have many folders that they continually remove the coins and then put them back in or store them in bags or lunch boxes, etc. They do also both have a box set aside where we keep their nicer coins ex. silver and gold but if a coin isn't worth more than a few dollars they are allowed to do whatever they want to them.
I found that trying to make kids follow the 'rules' when it comes to numismatics they will quickly lose all interest and that loss of interest could be for life. Is it worth ruining the potential numismatic value of a few coins to make kids happy and potentially foster a life long love of coins, well to me it certainly is.

That's great she is interested in filling that album. There is nothing wrong with it at all. LikeChris mentioned, they are thumb busters though. She may be asking you for help to get some of those stubborn dimes in there.
You may get some awesome toning from the finger oils as well! :)

Nah! Let them do what they want. They're having fun, and as they grow older they will probably learn the importance of the proper care and handling of coins.

Go for it! I have my original Whitmans from '65. Just to look at them brings back the greatest memories.
Silver searching was a whole different animal, then. Recollections like seeing your 1st $50. bag of cents,
or plugging one hole at a time, for what seems like decades~priceless. I'd like to contribute, I've got an extra BU '09D
laying around, send me an addy.

Collect them BECAUSE they are frowned upon. Judging by how many of the silver ones have been melted down over the past few years of silver madness, by the time she reaches college she'll have a uncirculated set of coins whose unofficial mintage population numbers in the 100s... ;)

I will pile on and say just do it. She is young, she will want to touch them, handle them, etc.LET HER. Don't be a "dad" , make her handle with gloves, put them in plastic, or generally do everything to suck any fun out of the hobby. Make her treat her coins like most US collectors do, and i will guarantee she will lose interest. What is impotant for middle aged men will turn the hobby boring for her.

Let her be a kid with her coins, and maybe you will create a lifelong collector.

+1 That's why I would say that kids should probably try to start with the circulated sets.

Or, mayhaps, a collector prodigy? :)
