Hi, just aquired this item and would appreciate it if I could get a $ value for this , what are they trading for Thanks again,, Maurice
I believe if real it is worth around 1000-2000+ dollars? this is just off the top of my head for a gold japanese manen era gold oban like this. Edit: After a quick search http://www.rubylane.com/shops/grimsbysartsandantiquities/item/pt2307?froogle=1 ^^ one like yours selling for 2000 USD
In the first place it's a 3.30g koban, not a 112.4g oban. The current edition Japanese Numismatic Dealers Association catalog values one version of the oban (JNDA #09-10) at ¥2.5-6-million (~$21,200-50,800) and the other version (JNDA #09-11) at ¥2-3.5-million (~$17,000-29,700). The business strike version of the much smaller koban - which is not inscribed in ink - is listed at ¥100,000-200,000 (~$850-1,700). There is also a proof version specially made for presentation to government officials, valued at ¥700,000-1.2-million ($5,950-10,170). Your coin (JNDA#09-23), and its 625,049 siblings, were the last coins of their type, cast during the final eight years of the Tokugawa Shogunate, which endied in 1867 with the Meiji Restoration of imperial rule. Japanese dealers typically sell coins at or above the JNDA catalog values. In the Japanese grading system I would estimate the catalog value of your coin at ¥160,000-175,000 (~$3,50-1,480) BTW for most coins that grading system translates literally as "Top", "Middle", and "Bottom". (Just a tad less complicated than P0-MS70.) Your coin is listed in Krause as C#22d.
I knew it was a Koban...my mistake, missed a key stroke ...I obviously meant Koban since I linked to a similar Koban as a reference...looks like my pricing was roughly correct....Damn I'm good. The one here is not in as good of shape as the one I linked to so I would say that anywhere between 1000 to 2000 would be a fair price (mid range would be good for the condition)...
Thanks so much for your help , I might have a few more questions and will probably post these items for sale on ebay , i will post the link thanks again ,, Maurice
Please don't---at least not here because the Moderators will just have to edit it---links to a sellers own items is not allowed on this forum unless you use the AUCTION forum---after you have 10+ posts you may post a link there once every week...7 days. Speedy
