Hey all, I had an odd find yesterday. I was going through a box of kennedy halves when I excitedly found a silver half on the last roll. But my excitement quickly turned to confusion when I looked at the date. It was a 1973 and there was no s mark. Clearly its not a standard silver proof, but its not a normal half either as it has an incredible mirror like shine to it. I've take a picture of it next to a normal 1973 half dollar for visual comparison. I think somebody may have plated it? But why would they do such a thing? Has anyone ever seen anything like this or have an explanation? Thanks, Chris
Possibly silver plated? Or does it look like zinc? I can tell a silver coin from a zinc one a mile away. Zinc looks duller imho
I think they made Chrome ones as well, that does not look like silver plate. I've seen plenty lately. HOTN
They made chrome ones as well? Do you mean Chrome plated, or as a special run by the Philadelphia Mint? What I really ought to do is try out a silver test kit and see what it says.....
