which coin has the best reverse--my contender is the gb halfcrown 1820 george iv--with the crowned garnished shield see the thistle scotland,shamrock ireland,rose england but why no wales
... and the 50 cent piece, too ... I stuck-in the '47 Maple Leaf for style-points (quite rare) ... => only 38,433 minted (yummy!!)
Well it won't come as a surprise that I choose Germany. For me it's a toss up between the Empire coinage, or the Federal Republic 5 mark (bottom right).
My choice cannot be anything but an Italian coin... 5 Lire 1914, Quadriga briosa, by Vittorio Emanuele III petronius
I suppose my favorite coin is generally my most recent acquisition. I've intentionally posted a small image of this one, to give you an idea of the amount of detail on the reverse that the engraver included. It's a heck of a lot of complexity on a 15mm coin, all rendered by hand...
That is just plain unfair to post that coin this early in the thread. Now you make me want to trump that one but it will have to be another Italian coin...
Okay Petronius, two can play your game... Huh? Whaddaya sayin? Cupronickel doesn't match your silver eh? Howzabout some gold:
