Hi, I just got a 1977 quarter and it contains 2 bumps on it . One on each side of the quarter. On the back side of the quarter there is a noticeable hard line as if something is in it. Oh and of course I was wondering if it was worth anything. :D Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

    Welcome,

It's a little hard to say for sure what you have. If you could post some good clear pictures, it might make it easier for the folks to help you.

I could speculate based on your description, but that usually just leads to more confusion.

I'm pretty sure that is an "included gas bubble" error. The three layers of the coin sandwich have separated, due to heat, and now there is an air pocket between them.

It's a pretty common error, and not a big money coin. Someone who needed it for their collection might be willing to pay a few dollars for it.

    BTW, nice pics.

In this case I think this bubble was caused by someone with a torch instead of the striking process.

In the other recent thread on this subject - the entire coin was toned fairly evenly - except the bubble. In this example - only the bubble is dark.

So in the first case - the bubble is light colored because it is raised and therefore the toning is worn off due to surface rub on the high spot. In this case - since only the bubble is dark and the rest of the coin fairly light colored - this leads me to believe that heat has been applied recently and caused the bubble.

    Just my opinion.

You know what? I've actually seen several sandwich coins with bubbles between the layers. Seen pictures of many more.
I've never seen one that had a darker color on the bubble area than on the rest of the outside clad layer.
