1999-2011 us commemorative Quarter set. 66 coins Take a look at The Florida coin. As i was placing them in their folder Florida is as far as i can tell is a planchet. Im new to the collecting but this is a nice pience of coin.... anyone have any idea what it is for sure or anything really. THANKS
Correct. An unstruck planchet commonly referred to as a Type 2 (due to the upset rim). A Type 1 (a blank) does not have the upset rim and is a smidge larger in diameter than a Type 2 Planchet.
Set ? reply yes i did in fact why? as i am new to collecting im not all that sure on things got books mags and contacts but im just gettin into it.. Never saw such a coin its awome i love it. I got two more sets coming too.. Whit any luck maybee another but doubt it... any info u can help me out with on planchet?
Is it Washington or Florida that didn't get struck? I don't know the value of the planchet was just wondering if the set was ordered from somewhere. Seems odd that wherever you got it from didn't see it. Good for you though they didn't .
If it's unstruck and there is no design, I don't think neither us nor the original seller would know what state (if any) this quarter was supposed to depict.
True, I think I've had a few too many tonight. I think I asked because he said it was in the Florida slot, and im thinking to myself, "if its in the slot, why take it out to mess with unless there is something blatently wrong with the coin" so I would assume ita Washington not being struck, bit at the same time, it could very well be someone stuck it in the slot with the blank up and Florida is missing .
Thats an interesting thought, could it be planchet they use as a "place holder"? they had to see it while assembling the set, hmmmm very interesting.
it was even stamped (the invoice) not the coin. with " personally prepared and packaged by ""name"" " but it was a set of 50 state quarters. When it came to the Florida coin there it was... and no Florida coin... Just thinking company made a coustly boo boo or not that costly.. regardless im happy to have such an interesting coin in my collection
