So I only need 2 coins to complete my Lincoln series, the 14-D and the 09svdb. Just came across this coin looks awesome, but something is telling me it's too good to be real. The pictures aren't the best but it would be the strongest strike I've seen on a 14-D in my price range. I tried to see if I could find the initials on the shoulder but the images are poor but it didn't appear to be there. The MM looks a bit sloppy from the last picture. Real or fake?
Well I thought that as well, which is why I mentioned I didn't see the initials on the shoulder. It's been so long since I looked at them. Just came across this and thought someone was just trying to get some money. I see that was not the case. Thanks.
i dont know really there are alot of fakes out there! my advice is get it graded. you can also take it to a coin shop near you and have the dealer look at closely under a scope. if altered or counterfeit there is visable marks. alot of counterfeit coins under close magnifying you can see what looks like bubbles. weigh the coin is it the right weight for that coin?
I agree with Tom B, altered 1944 D. The "1" in a real 1914 D is almost exactly the same distance from the 9 and the 4, but this one does show the 'gap'. Also the 'sharpness' of the face is not what one would expect for the wear either. The removal of that much copper is estimated at about .02 grams, well within tolerances, and couldn't be used as an indication. IMO.
