First time I've seen this Email, supposedly from EBay: Needless to say, the link to a "dispute thread" was phony, and EBay security confirmed it as a spoof message. They did use a legitimate item number - for a 99¢ BIN item . Just one more example of why you have to be careful out there!
Double Check Always double check your e-mail to see if you have the same message on your My Ebay page. It's amazing how many spoofs I get.
I got a similar email spoof last Saturday. When you read the message it said if I didnt respond by OCTOBER 6TH I would be reported as a dead beat. They try to get you to click their link to log in and swipe your account info. Of course it was November 4th when I got the email so I knew it was phony right away.
I have gotten this one and others. NEVER open them. View mail only from ebay direct. I got a second chance offer on a rare coin, and it was bogus. I e-m'd the seller to ask her, and she said that she never made a second chance offer. Ebay was notified and checked it out. It was bogus.
I have also recently received a "confirmation of Paypal payment" that I never made for an eBay item that I never visited. You can guess what the sender wanted next. Let's be careful out there...
George, next time you get one email spoof@ebay.com & attach the bogus email to it.Ebay will do something, but I don't know what though. Aidan.
I've gotten several of these from ebay and Paypal. never ever reply to these always forward them to: Spoof@ebay.com or Spoof@paypal.com then log directly onto your account to make sure that all activity is legit. I'm always getting the ones from paypal that say a new delivery address has been added to my account.
Jimm: I've gotten that one also, and that there is suspicious activity and that my account has been shut down, etc. The other day I got a message asking for verification -- but it was addressed to an e-mail address that I don't use for Ebay. Perhaps that is the way to do it, use one address, say a free one at hotmail.com for ebay only.
I actually got a second chance offer email from an idiot once, on an item I had already won. Some of the scammers aren't the brightest bulbs I guess. Beware and be careful.
I've received these as well, and a very interesting one: Bidder asked if he could drop by and see the car I had for sale on eBay. Replied (via eBay messaging system, which is how he asked) that I didn't have one for sale. But lo & behold, my user ID DID have one for sale. Contacted eBay via phone, verified my info with them, they then deleted the auction. Subsequently I've changed my eBay password (which I do about every 4 months anyway), my PayPal password (same routine), and the email account I have tied to eBay. Very strange, so definitely be careful.
