Who would bid on this... this is probably the most blatant fake coin I have ever seen. Does anyone have one that's worse? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1872-Seated...72?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item338071611c
I think the seller has one thats worse http://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-Morgan...76?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3380716bac
He's got a really funny-looking Morgan as well. I'd like to say it's fake, but I've been wrong on that account several times, so I'll wait and see what the experts say... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-Morgan...76?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3380716bac
All of the raised devices show the tiny bumps and pits of erosion die copy. The fields which are the higher part of the die can be polished down, but not the incluse portion of the die.
Some people enjoy having counterfeits to research and train themselves. I bought an altered 1928-s Peace dollar from a guy just to look at it under my microscope and see how they took the mintmark off and such.
I grabbed the images, and I'll try to remember to post them for future reference once the auction goes "poof".
Funny thing is, their last coin lot -- a Morgan, a Peace, a Walker and a Barber half -- looked completely legit, although cleaned and/or polished to death. I'd consider chalking this one up to pure ignorance, but I have to wonder about all the bidders on that "Seated Dollar".
It's still there, with 13 bids (a number of those from the same person, so that's suspicious) but its up to $127.50. There's a sucker born every minute.
"This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available." The Morgan is still up tough. I am lucky I found this thread because I wanted to buy from this seller the Sexy Romper Sleeveless Jumper, which looked genuine at first, but now I am not so sure.
Oh you're just gonna look marvelous in that 'Taxi'. Not to worry about 'genuine' in this case. It's all about the 'look'.
