While looking (as usual) for something else, this appeared. I don't recall where or when I got it, but it's been awhile. The darkness shown on the obverse in one pic is, sadly, an artifact of unskilled labor. Is it (the coin) at all worthy of comment? Has it significant value? I confess abject ignorance, but hope to stir discussion, and to learn thereby. Your opinion matters; certainly to me, and perhaps to a few others. Thanks
"Children of the Sun" theme. It was used on many post revolution coinages of South America in the 19th century. :smile Peru Argentina Bolivia
Very beautiful coin for me. It is common with a high mintage. The radiant sun is a series that I am going to work on next. The 5 centesimos KM1 (1840 especially with 1500 mintage) and KM6 are rare coins. I have this 4 centesimos KM 13A. Also common.
It's ver4y interesting old Uruguayan coin. A coins of that type were minted at "Ralph Heaton & Sons" Mint in Birmingham. It was a small set: 1, 2 and 4 centesimos coins. I can't say that it's very expensive coins (prices in Russia: about 25-30 $ for each face value). I have a full set.
Moreover. Here is a couple coins from Paraguay. The design is almost the same (as for Uruguayan coins).
Yes, I was taken by the elegance and simplicity of it, and that's why I have it. I've found that they are plentiful on eBay, and have low value...which is just fine. Siberian Man: I will find the old Russian coin(s) I have (somewhere) in the coming year, and post pics in this forum. Thank you (all) for your pics and comments.
Sorry to bump an old thread, but if anyone knows where I might find some of these coins, please let me know. It is a set I am trying to complete. Thanks!
http://www.vcoins.com/en/Default.aspx I entered Uruguay and 132 results came back. Check values in the link below before you buy as Vcoins dealers tend to be overpriced. http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/World-Coin-Price-Guide.aspx
