Looks like a 64-65 to me with that clean cheek, but I'm inexperienced with Morgans. DSCN2308.jpg DSCN2309.jpg DSCN2317.jpg DSCN2321.jpg

Far too many hits for gem status--won't make a 65 with the hits on the cheek and the reverse. Nice strong strike. I'd say MS 64 easily.

David, do you think it has been cleaned? It looks a little dull for a (non-scanned) photo.

The photos make it look MS64. There is a nice die clash on the reverse field just to the right of the eagle's left wing (the eagle's wing on the right as you face the coin).

Strong 64 IMO. Without the spot on the reverse, and with a mark or two less -65.

Which is that it doesn't look cleaned

No, I don't think it was cleaned. I think it was dipped lightly years ago, and has retoned. It would get slabbed as a 64.

I agree with the 64, but I've seen plenty in 65 slabs that looked worse than that coin.

That is one of the common clashes that you will see on Morgan dollars. You can also see the clash of the leading edge of the eagle's right wing (viewer's left) on the obverse at the juncture of her neck and jaw. If you look closely just below that clash, you may see a letter transfer of the bottom of the right leg of "n" from IGWT. It would be upside down. These letter transfers are most often the clashes that get attributed as VAM's.

Well, I hand picked it at a coin shop. I think I'll submit it to PCGS with my next order (after I get a few more coins to send with it). I bet the consensus here is correct. MS64.
