For past few months, I did keep my eyes on Dansco United States Type 7070, but it's still high demand and hard to find. I was looking at ebay and here with no luck. It's seem that no one willing to give up their good quality ones. The ones that has been sold is used and worn. I am little picky and I usually like to buy new ones. Today, I went to my local coin store. I planning to look for Eisenhower Dansco album and some supplies. I was looking at different Dansco and spot 7070. It's unbelievable that it's not used and it still showing retail price. No question, I bought it right away. No, I will not sell it at ebay, but start filling this album. For anyone who said that local coin stores has been cleaned by different collectors that you can't find any rare items. Baloney, I think our local coin stores does still have some treasures hidden around. Here's picture... It's five pages album, but I will order sixth page to add into this very nice album.
It's beginning to get to the point where these albums are themselves the first item to collect as part of the Type Set!
These albums ARE collectors' items. One of our forum members had one up for auction recently but it got too rich for my blood. In a year or two I won't be surprised to see them selling at $100.
Possibly, not that I'm going to come poach them, but what is the LCS in your area? I drive up there once a month, and have been looking for another shop. I'm a cent and commemorative collector, so I won't poach your finds my friend.
John Anthony: I hope people will buy it out of love to fill it with coins. It would be boring to see a factory wrap and sitting on shelf. However, I do understand how a book can be collectible as I do collect comic books. Cazkaboom: I think it will be great for barter in future. Who knows you can trade one 7070 for four or five different Dansco Albums?
Then the 7070 would be a relic when the 7071 or whatever comes out, IMO. I would not invest in Dansco albums. It shouldn't be too difficult to add the new cent reverses and nickel changes.
I've heard rumor that they'r possibly making the album wider/thicker to accommodate a few more pages. I just wish they would've done that for the new Lincolns. Now I've got two books that should be just one.
