Hey guys thanks for the welcome! Yes, I'm the one working on the ERIC project and it's exactly why it's now a good time to touch base with other collectors. Pays to keep your ears to the ground If you have rare coins (or ****, just any coin you're unsure of) I'll be happy to take a look. If you don't hear from me in a few days just someone please email me or send me a virtual kick and I'll pop in. Up above, that coin there is a Theodosius I AE2 from Constantinople. It features a relatively complex design with a diademed helmet and is a holdover from a generation before when Julian II introduced it in profile. The reverse packs a wallop of symbolism. The emperor rides a galley while waving a friendly hello and this galley is being steered by none other than Victory herself so that you know, without being so much as literate, that you are not to mess with this feller because lady luck's got his back! Below it is a Constantine I AE3 city gate from Nicomedia. The mintmark reads MNΔ, the delta of course being the 4th in the Greek alphabet so think of it as the coin trying to tell you it came from Mint Nicomedia Delta office. A Roman mint from this time period likely employed thousands of workers barricaded in fortress-factories (none of which were likely OSHA compliant at all lol!) and you can think of the office letter as an internal minting wing within this complex. As I work on the next revision of my book I'd like to offer everyone a chance to pitch in.
