Hi, I'm new to the group and would like to join others who are into ancient coins. My name is Rasiel and I specialize in Roman coins of the imperial period (also Byzantine). I hope to meet others of similar interests! Ras
So glad to meet you! Im not a Ancient coin collector yet, but theres plenty of ancient collectors here, a very popular sub-topic. Welcome to CT, have the best time ever, and I hope you learn alot just like all of us.
Hi Ras! Welcome to CoinTalk! I'm not really in to ancients, but sure that many others will benefit from your contributions and vice versa.
Welcome to Coin Talk RASIEL!:thumb: :thumb: What do you think of my two old old coins came from one of the member here FROGGYCOINS from FRANCE. So FAR this is my very First Two ROMAN COINS? Thanks my Friend FROGGY. I Love it!
Well, if it really is Rasiel Suarez, welcome! And let me say just how much I've enjoyed studying ERIC. Bravo sir!
Hello...Again they know you from the book (ok I might be guilty of poking my nose in it too few times) but I know the name from back when I worked Tech Support though cant remember if it was Cabletron, NTPSoftware or Copley. Regardless is all good Welcome and Enjoy you'll find we have a great group here
I actually found quite a few mistakes in ERIC II ... => I'm really hoping that you get your act together and dot your i's in ERIC III ... just joking ... that'll do pig, that'll do :goof:
Hey guys thanks for the welcome! Yes, I'm the one working on the ERIC project and it's exactly why it's now a good time to touch base with other collectors. Pays to keep your ears to the ground If you have rare coins (or ****, just any coin you're unsure of) I'll be happy to take a look. If you don't hear from me in a few days just someone please email me or send me a virtual kick and I'll pop in. Up above, that coin there is a Theodosius I AE2 from Constantinople. It features a relatively complex design with a diademed helmet and is a holdover from a generation before when Julian II introduced it in profile. The reverse packs a wallop of symbolism. The emperor rides a galley while waving a friendly hello and this galley is being steered by none other than Victory herself so that you know, without being so much as literate, that you are not to mess with this feller because lady luck's got his back! Below it is a Constantine I AE3 city gate from Nicomedia. The mintmark reads MNΔ, the delta of course being the 4th in the Greek alphabet so think of it as the coin trying to tell you it came from Mint Nicomedia Delta office. A Roman mint from this time period likely employed thousands of workers barricaded in fortress-factories (none of which were likely OSHA compliant at all lol!) and you can think of the office letter as an internal minting wing within this complex. As I work on the next revision of my book I'd like to offer everyone a chance to pitch in. Please bookmark http://dirtyoldbooks.com/eric3/ and ask questions especially on rulers I'm either working on at the moment or have already completed as I'll have the timeliest and most detailed info. As far as the book itself it is a very ambitious goal I've set so we won't be ready for press for several years but I'm thinking of pre-releasing some of the completed work. If you have questions, comments and especially critiques on how the work can be improved please post here. Many thanks, Ras
Ok, wow, that is one VERY conservative language filter. It asterisked out the word for a toasty place underground where Satan roams free and hath turned all thine coins to incandescent lumps of coal! LOL Ras again
