EF-40 - AU 50, i think its a EF 45, and that cartwheel luster is nice.

Au-53 most likely dipped. What kind of lighting did you take the picture under, incandescent or flourescent it seems there is a bounty of hairlines in the field, but it could always be the lighting.

Don't have it yet, it just listed on the bay for $25 free ship, so I picked it up. Figured it was at least a $65 coin.

ill be sure to take pictures when it arrives

^ Incorrectly dipped. Those that are experienced are able to conserve coins. Some of the folks here can astound you.

I said dipped not cleaned, you have to recognize there is a difference between the two. Dipped is a coin briefly dunked to remove tarnish, mostly unsightly tarnish, while a cleaned coin is either over dipped or scrubbed harshly.

For $25 I think you got a good deal.

So what wear on this coin brings it from an AU to a EF? I thought it was high AU when I clicked on it. Just didn't think I'd see luster on an EF.

On the obverse you pay attention to the highest points the hair right below the headband and the top of the cheekbone, the sharpness of the headband and the detail in the hair over the forehead are indicative of a higher AU piece, even high XF pieces sometimes have weakness near the headband.
On the reverse again the highest points of the coin, the tall leaf on the left and the corn across from it. Remember as a type II reverse (after 1900-1901) the bottom edge of the leaf where it folds over at the top was thickened and became a higher struck element. Noting the reflection off it, it looks to be well full with a nice vein down it, the leaves below it exhibit fully detailed veins as well, which isn't usually found in coins below AU. the corn can be a bit trickier, which is why I normally use the left side of the coin, but the fact I can see most of the individual kernels helps it out.
IMO, the coin is mid AU all day long...
