What do you think? Price is too good to be true and it looks carved or something... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1807-Draped...17?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4ac2128e09
how could it be carved? I think its legit, but if you can see the reverse bubbles under the eagle, and in the center of the obverse, there was probably some doctoring going on or cleaning. I checked the stars which seem to be my onlu suspicion, since they look different, but there in the same pattern and mabye are just worn out. I wouldnt buy it.
1807 was the highest mintage for that series and it would probably recieve a details grade. In g-4 the coin is worth about 425. With the condition its in I would put that money towards a graded problem free example.
I don't know enough about the series to tell fake/genuine, but I see what you mean about possible engraving. The hair detail, and maybe some of the stars, has that engraved look. I would pass.
I tried to find pour marks .but photo was to bad to try that would not work!!! it is funky looking 4 sure!!! :devil:But this also could be 1 found in the ground with a metal detector??? eBay I only bid or buy Graded coins or from alist of CT members+few Good sellers I know on eBay.
I don't like the look of that coin at all, and in fact it reminds me a lot of a 1800 dime which I bought many years ago which turned out to be a fake: http://www.cointalk.com/t29012-2/ Check weight, and diameter to be sure, but the look of the reverse alone, and that odd look of the obverse (like it has been re-engraved) is enough for me. Stay Away.
Hard to say. At first I thought it was an obvious cast fake because of the blurred look. But then I noticed his background is also blurred. So, he's either a poor photographer, or he's hiding something. Pics aren't good enough for me to be sure at all. Guy
