I'm posting this for a dealer friend to be on the lookout for an error folded dollar note (right bottom corner is folded up). It was stolen from the Las Vegas show at the Palace Station on Friday. This is not my area of expertise, but here is the description (I'll post a photo of it later): 1977-A L San Francisco Printed Fold. It's graded PCGS Gem New 65 PPQ. Serial number L97893465H It's value is around $750+ If you have any information about it, please contact: Jim Cauley at Errors and More 916-212-6752 kjcauley@netzero.com
You could never sell it at auction or on ebay.....maybe in 10 years you could sell it to a local dealer somewhere ? ( but they probably ID you ? Good chance the thief gets caught if he tries to sell it.
Unfortunately, that is not the case. While many paper money dealers may keep lists of stolen notes, the typical coin shop which only occasionally handles paper money does not. The thief does not care if he gets $100.00 or $1,000.00 for the note so he will take whatever offer is made to him.
Sounds like a USPS employee was at the show. Sorry, just a ranting over bad luck lately. How does something like this gets walked off with at the Palace?
Unless the thief is an idiot, which is about 50-50, the note disappears into a private collection taken out of that sleeve for 20+ years.
