Alright, so the seller of this item put a post on here which I'm sure got flagged for self promoting, but I seen it before it was gone. When I clicked on it, the price was $540. It's now at an even $2,000 plus shipping, of course.

It's the 2012 Canada Farewell penny roll but the catch is, it's numbered 20,000/20,000.

I'm guessing the people that are bidding on these believe that these were the actual last ones minted, which I'm going to speculate and say the serial numbers in no way indicate which order the coins were minted.

Do you think the price is justified based off a serial number which could have pennies from anywhere within the million coins minted?

Personally, I do not. I'm hoping when mine finally do arrive I'll have number 1 or number 2012 so I could win the Canadian Mint lottery as well!

I dont see the point, and would never think of paying a price like that but I guess its similar to a good serial number on currency.
    To each his own.

Assuming these are really the last 50, I'm not surprised they went for that much. In fact, I would expect them to go pretty high just based on what they are. Its the "cool" factor with these more than actual worth IMO.

Assuming this is the last 50 out of the million, but why would you assume that? Do you know how much additional work would have to be done to be sure each number on the roll matches with the corresponding coins that were minted in that order. I don't believe the mint would go to the trouble.

How can the $30 in shipping be justified?

  17. I don't think it's so much as the last 50 minted, as it is the last packaged one cent Canadian coins ever.

Sold for $6600. Crazy. I wonder what my roll will sell for? Don't have it yet. Maybe I will get roll 19,999. That would have to be worth a couple grand, right?
