As a handful of you know, I had been anxious about yesterday for a long time. I got to play "Coin Dealer". Though the day was pretty slow, I found out some of the works of a small coin show. It is not really much of a sell to collectors kind of show, but a between dealers show mostly. I arrived at the location to set the room up for all the dealers along with other club members. When the display cases arrived, I decided it was a good time to take the coins out and start setting up. That was when a dealer came and asked if I don't mind if he looks at what I've got. I humored him and let him look as I was setting up. He took all the 2x2 coins and started making two piles. One pile was quite large, and the other significantly smaller. He said I can keep the smaller pile as he was not interested in it, and proceeded to ask for a quote on the lot. Some of the coins I thought I overpriced with the intent of them not selling, but taking fancy show room in the cases were in the pile. And as I was giving him prices on each, I even upped the price I was asking on those coins to be sure they don't sell. I couldn't have been more wrong. Even though I am doing a lot of selling now, as I am saving up for some sort of motorized transportation, there were coins in my collection that were dear to me, and I waved them goodbye. But the final ticket made me a little less sad. I left the show spending almost $200. I was disappointed I couldn't find a trade from any of the dealers though. Nor could I find any good silver rounds/bars. But I was happy in the end. Spent almost $200, and walked out with $500 in pocket. It was a good day. Here are some of my purchases Some toned steel I bought a roll of 1961 proof nickels and cents, cents were a bunch of dogs, but the nickels didn't disappoint. Managed to get a couple 1883 N/C nickels for dirt cheap A new seated quarter Matching date half A beautifer Frankie And my favorite dime pickup. A $4 steal! And some foreign silver (Yeah, the Prussians are cleaned...) And a toned half mark that I paid an arm and leg for. I don't miss my limbs.
