Here is one which I just finished cleaning the crud off of. It was in a lot of unlearned Byzantine follies. The others are Michael IVs and some some Justinian issues. This little (25mm and 3.2g) coin only has the cross on one side. It appears there is nothing stamped on the reverse as you can see? Thanks for looking Ben
It could be from the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem or the Crusader Principality of Edessa. The Kingdom of Jerusalem was under the rule of the Lusignan Dynasty, who originally came from France. The Lusignans ruled Cyprus from 1192 until 1489,when Queen Catherine Cornaro (who was from Venice) ceded Cyprus to the Republic of Venice. Ben,it is only a guess,as Crusader coins aren't really in my line, plus I've not seen many to familiarise myself with the coins of that era in Middle Eastern history. Aidan.
Bone, I've never see this design before but I'd say that the "cross" is actually Christ with arms upraised in the "form" of The Cross.Note the drapery(or robe) on the legs and arms and the rounded head. That is a very common element in the design of Byzantine coins but unless someone here or on the other forum recognizes the design,it will be difficult to attribute. Crusader coins almost always looked like these. http://medievalcoins.ancients.info/crusader_kingdoms_of_the_levant.htm
