i recently bought a bulk lot of british coins,in the bottom of the bag was these two one dollar coins 1853 weight 1.6 grms, please tell me about them,i know nothing of united states coins--thank you
I basically know nothing of gold coins. But the wieght is about right. It would be quite a find if these turned out to be genuine.
if the turn out to be genuine.. they'll fetch better on the market backed by ngc or pcgs.. but if you like anacs or icg then go ffor it
Mintage - 4,076,051 in Philadelphia Value VF-20 $200 USD MS-63 $1,250 USD each weight 1.672 grams .90 fine gold diameter 13mm reeded edge
The photos aren't very good but I'm fairly sure they are both fakes. Better images would help. The facial features of Liberty do not look right on either one and on the rev the right hand one has what appears to be a raised blemish in the field below the E in STATES. The color looks odd as well but on a computer image I don't give that much weight. Even if they are counterfeit, if the diameter is right they may still be gold. (1950 and 60 middle east fakes)
I cannot tell if they are real. If real they are worth about $225 each or more. The Liberty Head were minted from 1849-1854. Nice find.:hail:
The faces look wrong to me and the dates look suspicious. I would be very skeptical as for their authenticity but even if their fake they can still be made from gold so if the general consensus is fake, still take it to any reputable dealer and have him test it for gold value which could be $75 a piece if its the correct karat of that type of gold dollar.
