I won this extremely rare AV Dukat 1803 Saalfeld Mint OGH MS-62
for $3200US/ mintage was 311exs. I have only seen 2 others. This coin was from Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt/ Fürstentum.
The 1921 Canada 5 cents silver had a mintage in millions. Today 450 are known. A MS-62 sold for $25K. I wouldsay that coin should be $3200 and the 1803 Dukat 25K...
But/ hey I am so glad that collectors do not think like me/ otherwise all my coins would have been unaffordable.....
That Dukat wa d0b4a868-31e1-4d27-bff1-e2e937d081b5.jpg 53f80c37-5f8f-44e5-b1b9-818716fa74d2.jpg s hammered on Sundays Auction/ Augustana Coll.

Another great addition to your collection, @panzerman. I agree with your comments on rarity. But these auction prices are determined by demand, not rarity. That said, I also agree with your comment on affordability. I, too, would have not been able to afford the better coins in my collection if their price had been commensurate with their scarcity/rarity!

    Thank God for that....
It would be really bad for you and I / if everyone used rarity/ eye appeal on their bidding in auctions. You see that esp. in US coinage were rather common coins fetch astronomical prices. Good example 1857-S Double Eagles brought up from SS-CA wreck/ most in MS quality.

Uh, that is the case with nearly all of my recent purchases. I bought a recent lot of TEN pieces of a particular date and coin (out of a mintage of 75) that are of a consensus beautiful design for 110 USD! Demand? Well, let's not go there, LOL
