Hey guys, I'm thinking of selling some St. Gaudens, and I'm wondering what the market is like for buyers of gold coins at that price point. I'm not talking special ones, just run of the mill ones. I'm new to coins, but with other stuff I often post it on eBay at a low starting price, like $9.99 and no reserve. But if I do that with coins like these, I would want to be sure that the market is robust enough to attract enough attention so that the coins would sell at a reasonable price. Is there a large pool of buyers such that every eBay auction that starts low ultimately hits market prices, or is the buyer pool small for these coins that it makes more sense to sell them at a fixed price? Thank you for your insights
I only change it because some forums are sensitive to the actual bidding service's name being used. It's common practice on other forums. If you prefer, you can change my languaging to eDay Only the OP can edit for the first 24 hrs, then only mods after that. Other members can't edit someone else posts.
Why screw around with the listing fee and invite disaster, all to save $2 (at most)??? $2 is the MAXIMUM listing fee for any price range of collectible. "eBay" is used here all the time, so maybe you should change it before the mods do. Of course, this is just a friendly suggestion.
Have you looked at sold/completed auctions? Lots of info there that might help answer your questions.
gf - Common date Saints in grades up to and including slabbed MS63's are going to sell for a small percentage over the current spot price. It would be abnormally unusual for them to sell for less. That's even true for problem coins. So it doesn't really matter what price you start them at. But if it makes you feel safer, start them at just under spot. End result will be the same.
