What is this Ebayer doing to his coins?? Is he just dipping them or something more?? All of his coins are extremely shiney. Here are two examples: http://cgi.ebay.com/1938-PDS-ARKANS...73QQihZ003QQcategoryZ3355QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/1938-PDS-OREGON...04QQihZ003QQcategoryZ3355QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Both these coins that I looked at are original BU Commemoratives. They have not been cleaned or dipped. This is just my opinion, but I started collecting the early commemoratives back around 1956. I think that I know them quite well...
He has 149 auctions going on right now. Not one, has a spot of toning. Alot of them are Morgans, over 100 years old.
Some of them do look suspicious, such as this one... http://cgi.ebay.com/1880-CC-MORGAN-...5QQihZ003QQcategoryZ39465QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I bought a BU 1932 Washington Quarter from him about a year ago (see pics below). I still have it in my collection and plan to keep it.
Seems to be a seller with a very nice high quality inventory. Feedback reflects that the buyers are more than satisfied with the coins they are receiving.
IMO the coins are probably dipped, but probably not over dipped. i would never buy one of them because i like coins with "character" but thats me.
"Dipping" is a form of cleaning used to remove tarnish from coins, if done correctly can remove dark or unpleasant toning from coins while being undetectable. If done incorrectly can make a coin look gray and lifeless, also called "over dipped" Dipping a nicely toned coin is a sin. sorry, had to add that.
I see some rim toning that seems normal with the age. Were they dipped back in the day???? need to see the coins in person to make the call every single one of us should make when spending more than a dollar or three......
I wrote back to this before but i was on my laptop and it droped out on me. I agree those coins look like are right from a old roll. I dont beleive these are cleaned.
