I have recently acquired two silver dollars and are dated 1878 and 1883, respectively. I wonder if they have and value and if so, how much? Does anyone out there know about coins? I certainly don't!

    Thank you,

If they are genuine, they are worth at least their bullion values, which is probably at least 20 dollars (?) If you can post pictures, that will be great.

Welcome to cointalk by the way!

Their value will depend heavily on whether they have a mintmark over the DO in DOLLAR on the rear of the coin. An 'S' means the coin was minted in San Francisco, an 'O' is for New Orleans, and a 'CC' is for Carson City, Nevada. No mint mark means the coin was minted in Philadelphia. A 'CC' mintmark will be worth the most on either coin, but a 'S' on the 1883 could be also valuable if the coin shows no or little wear. Whatever you do, don't attempt to clean up or polish the coins, as that will ruin their value.
