I picked up a USB microscope that was turned into our hotel's lost and found, but I need some software. I'm looking for something that can take stills. Hoping to use this to capture DDO/DDR images. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!
My first suggestion would be to google anything that the device has printed on it... Name, make, model, something like that?
Plug it in and see what happens. I bought one for the kids and did not need to install anything; it was done automatically. If you wish to use it for imaging varieties, please do not expect much in the way of quality. While I am sure much depends on the brand, it has been my experience that such things are near worthless overall.
It seems like a knockoff, I think one of the medical students we had staying here a while back left it, but no one responded to my inquiries.
I've plugged it in and can record video, but there are no options for stills. The image doesn't look too bad really.
If you can get a video stream that means the required driver is installed and you are home-free. I've had a lot of success with VLC Media Player on both Windows and Linux. It's open-source and free. To grab an image, go to the Video menu and Take Snapshot. Can be saved in .png or .jpg file formats. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html
