I know some have complained about silver coins from the US Mint that have white spots on them. Has anyone had experience as to how these white spots affect the grade of the coin?

I bought an ASE, and it has two white spots on the reverse. Tried to wash it off with water, didn't come off.

I think I've read (here) that it does affect the grade......

Yupp. A friend of mine submitted an otherwise "perfect" ASE (examined with his own microscope). It came back as a 69.

Something else to keep in mind is that even if they receive a high grade they will still be aesthetically challenged. This may bother not only those who own the coin and display it, but may also reduce the sales price dramatically since others will not choose to have such a coin in their set, either.

IMO it bothers me as collecting is all about eye appeal. We should not tolerate white spots on a coin that should be flawless. The mint should look into the cause.
