Found this in a bank roll. The finest wheat Ive found yet. The patina is so even, I think it was put in a wall during a construction project in the 1940s. I can count 8 small scratches on the reverse, 6 on the obverse and 2 scratches on the rim. All scratches are toned like the rest of the coin. The shine on the ear lope and over it is flash glare. I am very very new to coin collecting and by the images on the PCGS site, I think its a MS61. What do you think ? Am I close ? 39d.jpg

Your far away from that. That has lots of scratches, dents, And luster is bad, that hardly looks like toning from what I see. Infact I see dirt, Its a common grade wheatie, probably EF40-AU50 tops. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I would call that a AU55. Def not your average wheatie. Great find!!

Thanks for commenting, again, Im quite green. Every AU coins ive seen had flat spots on the cheeks and jaw. This coin doesnt have a flat spot other than over the ear.

i'd give it a 58, and congratulate you on an uncommon find in a bank roll. Usually I find common, worn 44's more often than anything else, but once I found a nice '17s.... wonder where that is right now? :) Keep lookin!

Besides for this coin, I havent had any luck with bank rolls. Out of a $25 box, I find MAYBE 10 to 20 wheats, and they are horrible. Best luck so far are local 24 hour newstands. They normally are too busy to run coins to the bank so they through the pennies in a bucket under the counter. Ive walked out of those places with over $100 worth of cents. 1/3 of it is copper and average 2 rolls of wheats.

I'm seeing an AU55 and these do color out like that. It's a very handsome find.
