Hi Everyone. It Has been a while since my last post and normally I post in Error Coins. As you will beable to tell in a moment I'm not versed well in currency and or error currency So I thank you in advance for your help and comments . I just found this in my pocket change and not sure what to make of it. It a red square on the obverse side of the bill, It doesn't bleed through to the reverse and appears to have been done when printed. The color is red and under a loop I can see lots of the red clothe strands. Im not sure if this is common. I had first thought it was marker but there's no discoloration to seal or serial numbers Again any Help would be great. Thank you all again Frank

  4. I'm guessing that portion of the bill was exposed to some sort of spray or something. Not sure exactly what, perhaps someone was spraying a room freshener near their desk and this bill was on the desk, but partially covered by some paper and the freshener reacted with the paper or with sunlight or something. Basically I'm saying that it probably didn't come from the BEP like that. Sorry, but I don't think there's an error here.

This dollar came from the Mint? Now that's an error!

Residue from an explosive dye pack?

The OP is an error coin collector. Why not use a term he will understand?

I have been trying to get an estimate on a $1 bill I found its a 1995 star note. With a fairly large ink smear on the back of it. Any advice. Thanks

I'll go with rickmp on the dye pack residue.

Really guys? Who dye packs a stack of ONES?

Most likely sweaty transfer from being in someones wallet, pocket, backpack, etc. Certainly not an error.

I've found lots of $1s stained by dye packs. When somebody demands all 'yer cash, you're not particular what you put in the bag.

I wasn't sure thank you all for looking. But wouldn't a die pack leek all the way Through and I know the BEP use the red Ink on the 5 dollar bills. could it have been somehow transferred from a press?? I looked close and the bill not smeared like other died notes I've seen online. And there's no folds along the center nor the edge to make it a clean square ?? I guess it's just weird. But thank you all again and happy hunting
