What do you think of this Sestertius of Antoninus Pius?

The coin has a lot of eye appeal to me as a well-circulated piece. I'm thinking it would make a good bottom-feeding morsel at the right price. What would you offer the seller?

Not sure about the stuff at 3 o clock on the obverse, but i'd say its a $50 coin at best.

That's what I thought as well. The stuff at 3 isn't different than anything else on the coin: surface roughness, slight deposits, toning. Here's a bigger view...

Decent coin. Weight and size? As a price comparison, I have this Divvs AP Sestertius I purchased last July for $55 shipped:

    Sestertius
OBV: DIVVS ANTONINVS, bare head right
REV: CONSECRATIO, four tiered funeral pyre surmounted by Antoninus in a quadriga, SC in ex.
Struck at Rome, 161 AD under Marcus Aurelius
    25g, 31mm
    RIC 1266

The size is 31mm. Seller doesn't give the weight - I'm going to guess somewhere between 15 and 20g.

That's a pretty hefty coin at 25 grams, Bing!

It is that. When you mentioned the weight, I thought I'd better double check. Sure enough, according to my scales, it comes in at an even 25g. A little chubber don't you think?

There's definitely a visceral satisfaction to holding large coins that you don't get from the average LRB.

I paid $25 for mine and that is what I would suggest for yours.

AP is one of my favorite emperors so I might go a little higher and pay $60 for this coin.

I didn't make an offer yet. I have my sights on another big fat blue sestertius that I like better, but I'm not going to give it away. Maybe I'll have something to share in a few days. :)

*whateva* ... yah, apparently I'm always the schmuck that pays through the nostrils for my coins (ahhh, but I love them!!)

=> so I still think that $100 was well spent for this eye-appealing, yet warmly-worn Sestertius!! (enjoy the warmth brothers and sisters!!)

Actually, I remember having money to burn that day, so I also dropped another $100 (delivered) on his buddy:

    Antoninus Pius Sestertius
    144 A.D.
    Diameter: 30 mm
    Weight: 20.4 grams
Obverse: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P TR P COS III - Laureate bust of Antoninus Pius

Sure, maybe I ended-up over-paying a bit for these two coins ... but on the flip-side, I've spent more than that taking my wife and another couple out for dinner!! (and although I'll continue to spend my money on both, I think that the two Sestertius are a far better investment) ...

I'm sorry, but waiting patiently for months, only to save myself $20 or $50 on a coin seems like a total waste of my energy (obviously, that is the "absolute fun part" for some of you, but it is definitely not the fun part for this guy) ... searching and pulling the trigger is what lights my fire!! (oh, and then getting the pretty dawgs in the mail ... priceless)

Jerry, Jerry. What's the old saying about a fool and his money..... Only kidding only kidding. Don't get so uptight. Nice Sestertii

Kudos to you. I waited over a year before I got an elagabalus I was happy with at the price I wanted to pay. Sure better & more expensive ones were plentiful but I wait till the coin calls out to me.

I refuse to pay, say $200 for a coin when I know a cheaper one will come in time, maybe for $70.

Sorta why I am at a stall with my lucilla/crispina set. Just waiting.....:)
