Taking pictures of coins is hard ! I better get one of those microscope cameras. I am very new to coin collecting and found a few 2000 WAMs, a few war nickels, and this. Every DDR/DDO coin Ive seen has had the entire word/words doubled. This coin seems to be doubled on the all the letters in AMERICA, except the M and the I. The coin doesnt have any other doubling anywhere else on it. What do you guys/gals think of it ?
hmm. The pic is huge but I cant seem to open it bigger on the forum. If you save the pic, then open it, youll be able to see it clearer when you magnify it.
I'm viewing on my phone but when I zoom in its pretty pixelated for me to see. Maybe someone on a pc can make a better call then.
Also, its not dirt or a patina reflection. Those areas are raised and casts shadows, from any angle you look at it. The area above the C has zinc showing, just like over the F in OF, but that area is raised at the same height of the C's interior section.
No. Since you are new to varieties, you may wish to check out this site (link below) if you've not done so already. http://doubleddie.com/58222.html It's a good start and should help explain what a doubled die really is. There is lots of good info on the site, so while at it, you might as well look around.
Your coin is not a doubled die, but rather plating issues that are common on zincolns...seems especially common on 1992 for some reason. Keep up the hunt!
Thanks non cents, I kinda figured as much considering 150 million coin collectors and the coin is 21 years old, someone else would have found one by now. But I am willing to part with the coin anyway, so you guys get first bids on it. Any offer over $10,000 will be considered.
Here is my first error coin post. This was the first, of many many let downs that non cents dished out my way
